By taking total creative control of her brand, writing her own songs, executive producing hit albums like Palette, and acting in hit television shows, she wiped out her parents’ crushing financial burdens, generated millions of paid digital downloads, and rose to the top of the Forbes Korea power celebrity list.

✎ Another legendary success story belongs to the global phenomenon BTS, founded by producer Bang Si-hyuk under the small, struggling company Big Hit Entertainment. Starting in 2013 with their debut album Too Cool for School, the seven members lived in a cramped single dorm room and faced intense industry gatekeeping from major media corporations, but they bypassed traditional television channels by using free social media platforms like Twitter and YouTube to share their authentic mental health struggles, grueling dance rehearsals, and honest personal stories directly with fans. Through groundbreaking albums like The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part One, Wings, and their smash hit English single Dynamite, BTS generated billions of dollars for the South Korean economy, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, sold out massive global stadiums, and earned the prestigious Order of Cultural Merit award.

✎ In a similar journey of overcoming extreme poverty, global pop star Ed Sheeran proved that relentless hustle and self-belief can overcome physical limitations, bullying, and initial industry rejection. As a young child who was picked on for his thick glasses, red hair, and severe stutter, he used music as an escape, overcoming his speech barrier by learning to rap along to Eminem albums and dropping out of school at age 16 to move to London with no safety net or record deal. Sleeping on subway trains, sofas, and outside Buckingham Palace while playing hundreds of tiny pub gigs to empty rooms, his huge break finally came when actor Jamie Foxx discovered his talent at an open mic night in Los Angeles and offered him studio time, ultimately launching a record-breaking career filled with stadium tours, millions of album sales, and multiple Grammy Awards.
